Food Bank of Barcelona and Costa Cruises

This project is part of Costa Coast’s extensive Food Assistance Programme which, since its inception, has distributed more than 1.1 million meals to people in need in 15 destinations that host our vessels.

Barcelona,  Spain, January 2023.  Costa Cruises and the  Food Bank of Barcelona renew the alliance to help the neediest people in the city. This initiative is part of  Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 of the 2030 Agenda, on “responsible consumption and production”.

Food prepared by the onboard kitchens, but not served, is donated through the Food Banks to local organizations that support people in need and at risk of social exclusion.

Barcelona Food Bank

This project is part of Costa’s extensive Food Assistance Programme which, since its inception, has distributed more than 1.1 million meals. Being beneficiaries the people in need in 15 destinations that host our boats thanks to the collaboration of local partners.

In Barcelona, the  Food Bank will distribute them directly to the Fundació Acollida i Esperança and to the Hogar Nuestra Señora de Lourdes.

For his part, Bosco Fonts, director of the  Food Bank of Barcelona  added: “The Banc dels Aliments de Barcelona celebrates the renewal of this commitment by Costa Cruises.  Fully aligned with the mission of Food Banks to reduce food waste, through the recovery of food surpluses. An action that contributes to guaranteeing the right to sufficient and healthy food for people at risk of food poverty.”

Costa Cruises has been implementing its  Sustainability Agenda since 2015 with the aim of developing its business while generating a positive impact on the environment.

Therefore, after this project in Barcelona, the company intends to extend the initiative to other ports. And achieve a positive social and economic impact on the local communities of the different destinations.
